Who are we?
The Future Fuels and Technology Project (FFT Project) is a partnership project between the Government of the Republic of Korea and IMO, established to support IMO’s regulatory discussions at the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) to advance the implementation of the 2023 IMO Strategy on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships by promoting knowledge exchange and facilitating access to the latest information on low- and zero-carbon emissions fuels and technologies.
For information on IMO’s technical cooperation support, including, among others, capacity development on MARPOL Annex VI, the 2023 IMO GHG Strategy and related implementation needs; policy and regulatory support, including the development of National Action Plans (NAPs); technical assistance and demonstration projects; investment readiness and infrastructure support; and enhancing the financial knowledge of maritime administrations to support implementation of maritime decarbonization in developing countries, please visit the Technical Cooperation and Partnerships and Projects sections of the IMO website.
What do we do?
To achieve its goals the project has three main workstreams:
Information portal
Facilitating access to the latest information to promote the uptake of zero and near-zero marine fuels and technologies through the Future Fuels and Technology website.
Technical studies
The Project undertakes technical studies and research to support IMO policy discussions on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping.
Technical Seminars
Hosting seminars and workshops to facilitate exchange of knowledge and share experiences amongst stakeholders to increase awareness on the latest developments on low- and zero-carbon marine fuels and technologies.
