The Technical Seminar on Marine Biofuels, organized by The Future Fuels and Technology Team, was held at IMO Headquarters on 12 February 2026 to enhance understanding of, and share recent experiences in the use of biofuels as low-GHG marine fuels. The hybrid event was attended by around 700 participants, with a further 1,600 views across the live stream and recording at the time of writing.
A diverse group of speakers from industry, academia and international organizations shared their perspectives on various aspects of marine biofuels covering the current state of play for the use of biofuels in shipping, production, certification and market dynamics of different biofuel pathways and onboard experience in the use of biofuels.
